Lord of the Rings

This epic saga was one of my earliest literary influences. My memories are slightly blury, but if I remember well, I read the book in first year of high school, a way before the movies were released. The version I own is the one translated by Göncz Árpád, from 1970's.

Since LOTR was Tolkien's lifetime work, everything is precisely aranged: a catchy story, which is intense from the very beginning, detailed descriptions, strong characters... I could literally feel the emotions through vivid images, simply by reading the lines. The only difficulty during the reading was the lack of knowledge of archaic vocabulary, but when I got used to it, it disappeared.

I usually visualized the story and the characters in a totally different way as directors of movies do, but in case of L.O.T.R., thanks to Tolkien's style of writing, it was surprisingly similar. The movies made the author's works even more popular all around the world.
